about

This is my original song, Man In Black, that pays tribute to the man himself, Johnny Cash, who 'walked the line" and to those to whom he gave a voice along the way. Co-written with Jack Petruzzelli and Adam Bernstein. Produced by Jack Petruzzelli, recorded by Justin Guip. Mastered by Fred Kevorkian. Guitars Jack Petruzzelli, bass Adam Bernstein, drums Rich Pagano. Featuring Larry Campbell on mandolin, fiddle, and pedal steel.

Johnny Cash was the inspiration for some of my best childhood memories. His courage and compassion were deeply stitched into our family life. In the summer, as a kid in Northern California, we used to hang out at Folsom Lake. On the water, after the sun went down, my dad would take us to the foot of Folsom Dam. Folsom Prison was just on the other side. We used to yell "Johnny Cash" and hear our voices bounce right off the wall of the dam in front of us over to the bank of the lake behind us and then back again, echoing.

MAN IN BLACK was co-written and produced with Jack Petruzzelli and co-written with Adam Bernstein

lyrics

MAN IN BLACK

Pamela Laws, Jack Petruzzelli, Adam Bernstein

Man in black, tell me your story.
Where ya been who’d you love, who’d you hurt?
Are you just another one-man glory?

Oh I could be you cigarettes in my t -shirt sleeve
Yeah I could be like you

Gonna get my June and leave
San Antone’s all right with me…
But when I saw that man and you
All the town became black and blue
Dancin by the light of the moon

Late at night, whiskey’d and doubting
Hideaways dirty clothes and a big ole hole
in my stomach from shouting

We stopped to sleep near a broken down bar
and torn up grocery

She said I could trust
She’d love me till we turned to dust
But I’ve grown tired of that tune
Rusty are the fork and the spoon
I’m dancing by the light of the moon

I think its time, she don’t really own me
Yesterday’s blade is sharp and I know in my heart
she’s done deceivin me

I can’t say no more, every word, every drop of blood
is accounted for

I didn’t need no clouds
hidin all the light in this town
I got the Folsom Prison blues
Its all been disappearin too soon
Banished by the dark of the moon

A man who ain’t encountered kindness
Is surely gonna take a fall
Luck runs out eventually with no grace at all
We might not a been from Memphis
But the writing’s on the wall from
before the time a man can crawl

Delia’s gone the radio done told me
Shook my head, closed my eyes, took a drag down the line
of my beat up satellite

I get so tired chase the lonesome highway down
Till my tires grind

On North Route 81
I’ve gone and left behind the sun
I’ve shed the trap of my cocoon
I’ve left it all behind in ruins
Dancing by the light of the moon

Man in black tell me your story…
